Christmas Alcohol Checkpoint
As part of our Christmas campaign, Road Safe Hawkes Bay joined forces with New Zealand Police undertaking an alcohol checkpoint on SH2 (between Napier and Hastings). The focus of these checkpoints is around safe and sober driving. As each driver is breath tested by Police and they have zero alcohol reading they receive a small gift from Road Safe Hawkes Bay in the form of goodie bags with lollies in them. You would be surprised as to how much this is appreciated by the drivers and their passengers.
Other emergency services attended the checkpoint to also reinforce the safety messages, as vehicles pass through the checkpoint many vehicle occupants called out...you guys are awesome, thanks for keeping us safe. I can tell you that this is appreciated very much by all those involved.' Safety is paramount and the catchphrase always used is 'Road safety is everyone's responsibility'. By driving safely at all times we increase the safety of ourselves, our passengers and other road users.
Due to the location, significant traffic management is required. All traffic is reduced to 30k, this is to provide safety for the vehicles in the queue but also for the staff working at the checkpoint.
The new signage on the bus was funded by Road Safe Hawkes Bay in collaboration with New Zealand Police. It was decided that the key message that we always use 'Road Safety is Everyone's Responsibility' would fit well on the booze bus which travels across Hawkes Bay and beyond.
The Road Safe Staff and volunteers enjoy working with New Zealand Police on this campaign, we add a festive feel by decorating the road cones with tinsel and lights..............and the staff in costume with Santa Hats.
Create a short, 2-3 minute video featuring a road safety message on either: speed, impaired drivers, driver distraction (cell phones), seat belts, oranother road safety focus.
